A sense of deja vu will transcend upon White Hart Lane this evening, as the boys walk out of the tunnel to face up against The Foxes for the second time in a week. Whilst the FA Cup tie may just have been the (albeit highly entertaining) sparing match in a competition neither side is likely to be prioritising at this point in the season, today’s fixture guarantees to be a full-blooded affair between two teams desperately scrapping it out at the top.

What did the weekend’s fixture prove? Leicester are no push over. The weekend’s game proved the Midlanders really are in amongst the likes of Spurs on merit. A swashbuckling performance saw them nearly upset the odds, a late Harry Kane penalty sending the entertaining clash to a replay. One things for sure, we can expect another compelling match-up between the two sides.

Team News

The hope is that allowing some key players to rest on the weekend will pay dividends in today’s game, with the likes of Kane, Alli and Lloris expected to return to the starting line-up. Tottenham’s run of good fortune on the injury front continues, with Clinton N’Jie the only first team player unavailable for selection for Mauricio Pochettino.

The Foxes, too, have pretty much a full complement for the game- Kante, who was substituted on the weekend, is expected to be fit for the match, as is Jamie Vardy. Demarai Gray could well be in line for his Premier League debut having played well against Spurs on the weekend.

Final thoughts

As much as I must say this every week down the pub, this is another game that will really assess Leicester City’s credentials as top four candidates. Their refusal to wither underneath the intense scrutiny that their positioning amidst England’s elite has brought sees a fixture that would have had a certain degree of anonymity at the announcement of the fixture lists turned into a match that could have repercussions of seismic magnitude come the end of the season.
